SEMINARS

Please note, that although we schedule seminars throughout the year at various locations,  we can offer them at your location for outdoor organizations, clubs, camps, resorts, etc.  Please call for more information.

S-ISS-1: INTRODUCTION TO SURVIVAL SKILLS (3 Hrs.)

     This is an introduction seminar to Wilderness Survival Skills.  It includes topics such as the basics on building survival kits, fire starting, survival shelters, water purification, signaling, map & compass and knives for survival.

S-SK-1: SURVIVAL KIT BUILDING BASICS  (3 Hrs.)

     Taught by the author of the book, "Build the Perfect Survival Kit", this is a comprehensive seminar on the basics of building a survival kit!  Get an in depth understanding of why you should carry a survival kit, the planning phase, and the 4-P's of building a kit.  Learn the component groups that are essential for a complete kit, selection of containers to hold your kit, and how to package it so you will always carry it with you.  This seminar provides all the basics so you will be able to build your own survival kit.

S-FSS-1: BASIC FIRE STARTING SKILLS  (2 Hrs.)

     Fire making skills are very important in a survival situation.  This is a great seminar for basic skills in fire making techniques.  You will learn the various types of fire making components you should carry in a survival kit to ensure you will get a fire going in a survival situation.  Each fire making component will be demonstrated, and if time permits, you will get to try some of them.  Learn about the various types of tinder, and how to make or collect it.  Use and construction of a Fire Bow will be demonstrated.

S-SS-1:  SURVIVAL SHELTER BASICS  (2 Hrs.)  

     Being able to build a survival shelter in an emergency is also an important skill to know.  This seminar will explain the various types of shelters that can be constructed in a survival situation and the factors you should consider before selecting the type and location.  Learn about the minimal items you can carry in a survival kit which will provide you with the ability to construct a shelter quickly.  Don't be left out in the rain or cold. This seminar will teach you the basics. 

S-TSS-1: TRAVEL SAFETY & SECURITY  (2 Hrs.)

     This seminar is more for corporate travelers, than outdoor adventurer's.  This seminar teaches that in today's environment, personal safety is a traveler's responsibility.  Learn about the preparations you should make before you go, including medical considerations, air travel, taxi travel, and automobile travel.  Get important tips on crime prevention, hotel safety, fire safety, and traveling out of the country.  Learn about travel safety kits, and what you should have with you to ensure you have a safe and comfortable trip.   


WORKSHOPS

Our Workshops are offered throughout the year at various locations so our students can find a time and location convenient to their needs.  They average from six to eight hours for a day's instruction.


W-SK-2: BUILD A SURVIVAL KIT WORKSHOP  (6 Hrs.)

     This workshop is a fun day.  Taught by the author of the book, "Build the Perfect Survival Kit", you first receive an instructional period on the basics of building a survival kit as outlined in the above seminar, S-SK-1.  After learning component groups, containers, and packaging concepts, every student will then build, and take home with them, a survival kit.  The completed kit is included in the price of the Workshop.

 

DURATION:  6 Hours

COST:  $125.00 (and you keep the survival kit you built worth almost $50.00)

W-BMC-2: BASIC MAP AND COMPASS WORKSHOP  (8 Hrs.)

      A lot of people are going into the outdoors today with only a GPS unit.  Unfortunately they can fail, the batteries can go dead, and there are areas where they just don't work.  We are not anti-GPS, we just believe you should have basic map and compass skills as a back-up plan.  You will learn in this workshop the basics for using a map and compass.  Hope for the best, but prepare for the worst.

 

DURATION:  8 Hours

COST:  $100.00

MINIMUM/MAXIMUM STUDENTS:  8 Minimum/12 Maximum

REQUIRED EQUIPMENT:  Notebook, writing instrument, and casual clothes.  We also recommend an orienteering compass (they will be available for sale before the class).  Bring something to drink (water will be available) and lunch (there are various eating establishments within a 2 mile radius if you desire going out for lunch).


W-FMS-2: FIRECRAFT SKILLS WORKSHOP  (8 Hrs.)

     During this day long workshop, you will learn various methods to start a fire in the outdoors, as well as the various fire starting tools you need to carry in your survival kit.  Methods will be demonstrated and then you will practice with those methods so you will become comfortable doing it in a survival situation.  You will also learn the various types of tinder for starting your fire, as well as kindling and fuel.  This is an essential skill for surviving in the outdoors.

W-SS-2: SURVIVAL SHELTERS WORKSHOP  (8 Hrs.)

     Our Survival Shelters workshop is another fun one!  Learn the various types of survival shelters to include immediate action shelters, as well as improvised shelters.  Not only do you learn construction techniques, but all students get to actually construct a shelter in the woods.  Bring a camera, as you will want photos of yourself in your completed shelter!

TRAINING PROGRAMS

Our Training Programs are designed to provide the student with a hands-on experience so they will leave with more confidence in their ability to actually use their new skills during a survival situation.  These programs are also offered at various locations.


TP-SSW-1: SURVIVAL SKILLS WEEKEND  (20 Hrs.)

     This is a great way to spend a weekend and learn survival skills too!  It starts Friday night whereby our students can casually arrive, set-up their tents, and sit around a fire for an introduction, orientation and discussion on survival philosophy.  Saturday and Sunday are packed full of instruction and practical application of fire making techniques, building survival shelters, emergency signaling techniques, water collection and purification, food collection techniques, map & compass, knives & tools, and survival kits.  Sit around the fire every night and discuss the days lessons.

 

DURATION:  20 Hours

COST:  $225.00

DEPOSIT REQUIRED:  $100.00

MINIMUM/MAXIMUM STUDENTS:  6 Minimum/12 Maximum 

REGISTRATION:  Call for Registration Package.

REQUIRED EQUIPMENT:  You will need a tent or tarp, sleeping bag and pad.  You may bring a small stove if you plan on cooking, as well as a pot and cup.  You should have a knife, notebook, writing instrument, and a change of casual clothes, as well as rain gear.  Bring something to drink (water will be available) and 2 lunches (there are various eating establishments within a 2 mile radius if you desire going out for lunch).  A cookout dinner will be provided Saturday night.
