The BIG STICK™ Flint is a large ferrocerium rod imported from Europe.  It measures 4" long by 3/8" in diameter.  We have attached a 1" split-ring and one of our miniature snap swivel hooks for holding the striker when not in use.  Some fire starters have a striker attached to a lanyard, which makes striking the ferrocerium rod awkward.  Our attached snap swivel hook allows you to easily detach the striker for use, yet allows it to stay attached to the rod when not in use!

The Corona Sharpening Tool

If you want to get maximum sparks from your Firesteel, try this little tool.  It has a carbide tip and will amaze you with the amount of sparks you will cause when you scrape the edge along your Firesteel.  It was designed as a sharpening tool for Corona Pruners, and we happened to pick one up

when we purchased a folding Pruner for cutting kindling.  Having a carbide tip, we wondered how it would work as a striker for our Firesteels, and we were impressed.  We now use them all the time and our students love them.  So we thought we would offer them on our site. 

We have been known to modify their appearance, and even shorten them to carry on our key ring (NO, we DO NOT sell them modified.  You will have to be creative yourself, or just use them "as is").  By the way, you can even use them to sharpen with!

TINDERSTICKS™

MayaSticks® are made from Pino de Ocote, a fatwood pine cultivated in the highlands of Guatemala and Mexico.  With their 80% resin content, they are easy to light, even when wet, and produce an extremely hot flame.  We tested these against some of the fatwood sold in stores, and these are the best we have found.  We could ignite shavings from these sticks with just a spark.  They come in a package of 8-10 sticks and they average about 8" long.  In order to carry them more easily in a pack or kit, you can saw them into shorter lengths and split them into smaller pieces by batoning.  Package Weight: 11.5 oz.
