FISHING KIT, EMERGENCY, SMALL

Designed and packaged by Survival Resources for fresh water fishing, this Small Emergency Fishing Kit is a quality item made with name-brand components.  It is housed in a Nalgene snap-cap vial measuring only 3-3/8" long by 1" in diameter, so it will fit in most small survival kits.

Many kits out there are provided with monofilament line which has terrible memory when you try to unwind it from a tight bobbin.  This leaves you with a mess when you try to use it.

Therefore, we started our kit with 50' of Power-Pro® 20 lb. braided line, which can be wound on a bobbin without retaining memory.

Next, instead of adding a razor blade, we include an actual folding razor knife which can be closed for safety when not in use.  We also include a 6" Berkley® Wire Wound Leader and 2 Eagle Claw Size 10 snelled hooks with leaders.  A complete list of components is provided below:

    1 - Nalgene Snap-Cap Vial 1 - 50+' 20 lb. Power-Pro® Braided Fishing Line
    1 - Folding Razor Knife 2 - Eagle Claw® Size 10 Snelled Hooks
    1 - Berkley® 6" Wire Wound Leader 2 - Eagle Claw® Non-Lead #7 Removable Split Shot
    2 - Eagle Claw® #10 Baitholder Hooks 4 - Eagle Claw® Non-Lead BB Removable Split Shot
    2 - Eagle Claw® #8 Baitholder Hooks 1 - #3 O'Shaughnessy Hook for Gaff
    2 - Eagle Claw® #6 Baitholder Hooks 1 - Brad for attaching Gaff Hook
    2 - Eagle Claw® #16 Snap Swivels 1 - 18"x2.5" strip Heavy Duty Aluminum Foil
    2 - Eagle Claw® #14 Barrel Swivels 3 - Small Safety Pins

(Note: Individual components can be substituted for equal or superior quality items)

THOMPSON SURVIVAL SNARES

These famous Thompson Survival snares have been used in US Military survival kits since WWII, and are the best quality.  With practice, these self-locking steel snares will trap small birds, squirrels, rabbits, woodchucks, mink, weasels, and similarly sized animals.  Two sizes included with tie line, complete instructions, and illustrations.  Wt. 2 oz.

17002 - Thompson Survival Snares - $9.95

FROG GIG - SPEAR

We really like this 4 Tine Frog Gig - Spear because it is smaller than a lot we have seen, which means it is easier to carry in your food gathering kit.  It measures 6-1.4" long x 1-1/2" wide.  The handle is tapered from 7/8" in diameter down to 1/2" diameter.  It has a hole through both sides to assist with attaching to a pole, which you can cut and shape in the field (you even get a screw with nut to use to attach to the pole).  The outside 2 tines are 2-1/8" long and the inside two are 1-7/8" long.  It weighs 1.2 oz.  This is really a handy little item to help you collect food in a survival situation!

17004 - Frog Gig - Spear - $2.50

24 GA. BRASS SNARE WIRE

A basic component of most survival kits is 24 Gauge Brass Snare Wire.  24 Gauge is strong, easily molded, and a good diameter for survival snaring.  Packaged in a handy dispenser, this 100 feet of 24 Gauge Brass Snare Wire provides you with enough wire for a couple of kits with the recommended 50' for each survival kit.  A portion can be rewound on a sewing bobbin for mini kits.  A multi-purpose item, this brass wire can be used, not only for snares, but also to secure a gill net, lashing and repairing items, etc.

17005 - 24 Ga. Brass Snare Wire - $5.75

MILITARY SPEEDHOOK™

The Speedhook is specifically designed for survival applications and is so effective, it is outlawed for non-survival use in some areas.   This small device is used for fishing and trapping when no food is readily available.   The Speedhook works like a spring loaded trap and when a fish, or other small animal, "takes the bait", it automatically springs open setting the hook.  This is the U. S. Military Version of the Speedhook and is currently included in the Cold Weather Survival Kits of the U.S. Air Force, U.S. Army, U.S. Coast Guard, Army Reserves and others. This version comes with fishing line, one hook, several pieces of dehydrated bait and complete instructions.  This is a perfect supplement to the emergency fishing kit required by Alaskan and Canadian Aviation Regulations.  No fishing pole is required.

17060 - Military Speedhook™ -$10.95

REGULAR SPEEDHOOK™ - 2 PACK

The Regular Speedhook is specifically designed for survival applications and is so effective, it is outlawed for non-survival use in some areas.   This small device is used for fishing and trapping when no food is readily available.   The Speedhook works like a spring loaded trap and when a fish, or other small animal, "takes the bait", it automatically springs open setting the hook. This is a pack of 2 of the great Speedhook devices like the one included in the military fishing and trapping kit.  It comes without the line or bait, and can be used to augment the military kit or to supplement any small emergency fishing kit.

17062 - Regular Speedhook™ - 2 Pack - $6.95

AUTOMATIC FISHING REEL

Also Known as a Survival Yo-Yo

These Automatic Fishing Reels are great for survival.  Just add a hook and some bait, and these reels will set the hook , reel in the fish, and hold it until you get there.  The reels are automatically set when the trigger is released by the fish taking the bait.  They can be attached to a limb overhanging water, or by any means that suspends them over water.  Great for unattended fishing while your checking your snares (note: some states don't allow unattended fishing - check your local laws).  Available in galvanized steel, they feature stainless steel springs and 60 lb. test line. Reel measures 2-1/2" diameter, Wt. 1.8 oz.

17070 - Automatic Fishing Reel - Galvanized - $2.75

17071 - Automatic Fishing Reel - Galvanized (3-pack) - $7.50

SURVIVAL FISHING GILL NET

The Survival Fishing Gill Net is an excellent, and in some areas, required form of aviation survival food gathering.  This 12’ x 4’ emergency gill net is used by stretching it across a stream or pond.  Its 1.5" mesh meets current FAA regulations, but is perfect for all wilderness survival applications.  Our Fishing Gill Net is constructed to be effective and versatile! The leaded foot (bottom) rope of the gill net acts as the weight to sink the net and the top rope is made of polypropylene that floats.  The netting is clear enough to work in both water and land situations, yet visible enough for the user to see it and avoid getting tangled, wasting time, energy, and potential damage to the survival gill net itself!  This gill net stretches to meet your needs. Don't stretch it to its 12 foot length, and get more width. This gill net is also a perfect small seine net! Fish that attempt to swim through are caught in the net and can be used for food or bait.  It improves on the old style Emergency Gill Net by incorporating a monofilament line as opposed to the weaker string used previously. Because of this, it is a little larger than the traditional survival gill net when packaged. Our gill net even comes in its own mesh storage bag.  The is the best survival gill net available on the market today!

17080 - Survival Fishing Gill Net - $21.95

SLINGSHOT RUBBER w/LEATHER POUCH

A slingshot is a great device to use for food gathering in a survival situation.  However, instead of carrying the whole thing, just carry the rubber with leather pouch, and make your own in the field.  Throw one in each kit and pack, as they can store in a much smaller area than a complete slingshot.

17079 - Slingshot Rubber w/Leather Pouch - $3.75
