We learned years ago that nobody can be an expert in everything.  Because of this, we have gathered a group of highly trained, experienced, and respected individuals who have expertise in a specific area or topic.  These diverse backgrounds allow us to tailor our services and courses to our clients/students needs.

 JOHN McCANN

Managing Director - Chief Instructor

John McCann founded Survival Resources™ with the goal of bringing together, in one firm, the various elements of survival to include training, consulting, and products.  After the publication of his book "Build the Perfect Survival Kit," John realized there was an absence of businesses that specialized in providing survival products and equipment, especially survival kit components.  So he started selling them.  At the same time, he had some innovative training ideas he wanted to pursue.  So he include training in his new firm, and this division has grown considerably. The consulting aspect started when people began asking him for assistance designing survival, travel safety, and various other type emergency kits.  John felt that having all these elements in one place would allow a customer or client to fill their needs without going to several firms.

John gained his initial experience as an instructor while a Drill Instructor with the United States Marine Corps.  He is a NY State licensed guide, certified in Wilderness First Aid and Water Safety, and loves what he does.  His great sense of humor always interjects itself in all his classes.

DENISE VOGLER

Sales Manager

Denise Vogler has joined our team full-time and is now in charge of sales in our products division and responsible for coordinating all of our programs and projects. Originally from Switzerland, Denise is an avid outdoors person, who has hiked the Swiss Alps and backpacked for weeks into the Grand Canyon.  She has attended various survival courses and will live in the woods, with next to nothing, at the drop of a hat.

She also has over 16 years as a teacher in home economics, specializing in cooking, so she obviously has become our excellent field chef for outdoor courses.  And if a student catches a fish, she is the one who can teach you how to clean it and cook it!  She is also an Instructor and Field Assistant.

ROBERT CROWLEY

Instructor/Land Navigation

Robert has a life long association with the Boy Scouts of America, served with the US Navy, and is a Licensed NY State Guide.  In 1981 he hiked the entire Appalachian trail.  He is the former Training Chairman for Backpacking for the Appalachian Mountain Club and past Instructor for Land Navigation, Backpacking & Snowshoeing at the Mohegan Outdoor Center.  Although a Lead Instructor in Land Navigation, he can jump in any of our classes with a wide base of knowledge and experience.

ROY PETERS

Instructor/Winter Survival

Roy is a unique individual.  He brings over twenty-five years of cold weather camping and survival skills to this organization.  An Eagle Scout, he is the past Course Director for the winter survival course at Gawasa-Okpik, held at Tug Hill, NY (a very cold snowy place), and a staff member for over 15 years.  Roy has instructed winter camping and survival, at all levels, for the Boy Scouts of America, the US Air Force & Army, as well as civilians.  On top of this, Roy is an accomplished Native American Flute artist who also hand builds and sells Native American Flutes for a living.
