Early Morning Jaunt

At dawn I enter the forest as if her eyes are yet completely open.  The new light of day filters delicately through the canopy that protects her; even though the day’s new sun has yet to reveal itself.  My nostrils take custody of the early morning fragrance of the dew laden earth.

The Layers of Life

I was hiking through the Watkins Glen State Park in western New York and observed the cavernous depths created by the unknown years of water sculpting the earth's surface, creating vast walls.  It was like a miniature Grand Canyon, yet more intimate, due to the narrowness and diminutive nature of the meandering precipice.

Autumn Is Upon Us

Well, autumn is upon us again.  I walk the trails and observe the vivid and iridescent medley of fall colors.  The intensity of the red, orange, and yellow, produce a glowing brilliance from the sun's radiance against their skin.  The fragrance of the early morning air is different upon my nostrils, cool and refreshing.  The temperature is not yet frigid, but crisp enough to warrant that light wool sweater.

Rhythm of The Rain

There are various elements associated with the rain which affects many of our senses.  This sensory stimulus provides us with memories that can be revisited by merely closing our eyes and recalling them in our mind.  The smells, feelings, sights, and sounds, all work in tandem to create these memories.

Mother Nature - A Double Edged Sword

In a survival situation, Mother Nature can furnish many of the necessities to survive.  She can provide water from her streams, creeks and ponds.  The rain from the skies can moisten your lips and be accumulated in containers for future hydration.

The Woods Have No Keepers

The woods are pristine in their own way.   Although self occurring debris litters the woods, it is internal, and integral, to the natural process of self maintenance.  A dead tree may fall and rot, but returns its nourishment to the forest floor, to nurture future growth.  However, this is natural and does not look out of place.  It belongs there and we expect it.

The Pantry

In the world in which we live, unforeseen  occurrences can develop in the blink of an eye.  One day we sit comfortably in our home, content and satisfied with the present course of life's direction.  But lurking just around the corner, like a mugger in the night, natural and unnatural disasters wait.
